Temperate Agroforester Newsletter Archive Now Complete

AFTA members now have access to the complete collection of back issues of AFTA's quarterly newsletter, The Temperate Agroforester. The earliest issues from the 1990's were recently added to finally complete the archive. Issues from the first ten years (1993 - 2003) can be viewed as PDF files. All issues since then are in HTML format. AFTA members should first log in to the Member's section of the website to browse the tables of contents and read past newsletters.

Center for Subtropical Agroforestry Releases a Collection of Published Works

This 'Binder' includes over 850 pages of research articles, theses and dissertations extension publications, a brief report o­n the 1st World Congress of Agroforestry, and reports o­n CSTAF collaborators' presentations to major professional conferences. Additional publications are in progress and will be added to the binder periodically. These publications represent 5 years of agroforestry research and education through the support of a four-year USDA/CREES/IFAFS grant to the University of Florida.

Sustainable Ag Network Launches New WebStore (from ATTRA)

The Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) has developed a new WebStore featuring books, bulletins, and other resources o­n sustainable farming and ranching. The store has many publications featuring innovative production and marketing strategies for this winter's workshops and conferences. SAN's bulletins are available in quantity to agricultural educators at no cost. Also, SAN offers significant discounts when you order ten or more of any SAN books.

FY '06 Agriculture Appropriations Bill Completed

On November 10th, the President signed the 2006 Agriculture Appropriations Conference Report into law following approval by the House and Senate. Funding for the NRCS Conservation Operations was increased by 9 million over the fiscal year 2005 level. Funding for the Resource Conservation and Development Program and Watershed Operations were restored, but almost all of the Farm Bill conservation programs were capped below their authorized levels.

New multimedia DVD: Smallholder Timber: Sustaining Livelihoods and Biodiversity

This multimedia presentation, drawing in particular o­n the experiences from Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America, touches upon the potential of farm-level timber to enhance farm livelihoods; species selection and germplasm access; and management and marketing of farm tree resources.

Recent Release of Book: Growing Ginseng

The book Growing Ginseng, by Scott Persons and Jeanine M. Davis, was recently released as a practical guide to the cultivation of woodland botanicals. Recommended methods for growing and marketing ginseng, goldenseal, black cohosh, bloodroot, ramps, and wild ginger, as well as plant botany and usage, best management practices, and present market conditions are some of the topics covered in detail. Personal success stories, a unique list of diseases, and references are also included.
